Asus Blocks Iranian Access to Website: New Digital Restrictions?
WANA (Jan 12) – Less than a week after Google Analytics accounts in Iran were blocked, Iranian users are now encountering a 403 error when attempting to access Asus’s official website. The error message explicitly states that access from Iranian IP addresses to Asus’s site, hosted by Amazon CloudFront, has been restricted.
This restriction not only cuts off Iranian users from viewing Asus product pages and support sections but also prevents access to the Asus Download Center, a vital resource for downloading updates, drivers, and applications such as Armoury Crate. Without a VPN or IP-altering tool, Iranian users are effectively locked out of Asus’s online services.
Previously, the gaming product pages of Asus’s Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand were temporarily inaccessible to Iranian users, though that restriction was later lifted. Now, however, the access ban appears to extend to the entire Asus website.
Analysts suggest that this latest move by the Taiwan-based company may be a preemptive measure ahead of potential new policies under the incoming U.S. administration.
The big question remains: Is this a temporary disruption, or does it mark the start of a new wave of permanent restrictions? If the latter, it could spell broader implications, potentially affecting not just online access but also the import and availability of Asus products in Iran. Only time will tell whether these measures will be reversed or expanded to include other tech companies.
